The Pantanal is the largest seasonal floodplain in the world and the ecosystem with the highest concentration of flora and fauna in the Americas. About 75% of the Pantanal's area of 71,000 square miles is annually flooded by rivers.
The Pantanal is home to the world's largest concentration of jaguars. They lead solitary lives with overlapping territories. They have evolved as highly effective riverbank hunters, preying on caimans, fish, anacondas, and capybaras.
Much of the Pantanal and its wildlife is threatened by ever-expanding growth of farms and cattle ranches. Please support the Jaguar Identification Project at www.jagauridproject.com.
