In early September of 2019, we traveled to Alaska's Katmai coast via a former crab fishing boat. Bears within the Katmai/Kodiak area average 200 per square mile by comparison to Denali Nat'l Park which averages 1 bear for every 12 square miles. The bears were in excellent shape and were being very picky about which salmon they ate. We were lucky to see a coastal wolf as well as many mother/cub pairs that allowed us within 30-50 ft of them.
