The largest predator in North America, bears have the majesty and solitude of the "errant knight" from classic literature. During our experiences with bears, we're continually amazed by how silently such a large animal can move through its surroundings, the dexterity they demonstrate in feeding and the care they show in raising their young.
The brown bears were photographed at Brooks River Falls in Alaska, and the polar bears were photographed in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. The grizzly and black bear portraits are of two zoo-resident heroes of the animal kingdom who help us all better appreciate their specifies and their value in this world.
